Short answer: a 60-minute Balinese massage costs 120,000–300,000 IDR at a local or mid-range spa and 400,000–900,000 at a resort. The single most useful fact on this page: the 1–4pm window runs 30–50% below the 6pm price for the identical treatment, at the same place, from the same therapist — and almost nobody advertises it.
For anyone here more than a month with a weekly massage habit, that one question is worth over a million rupiah a year.

The afternoon window, in detail
Every spa in Bali has the same shape to its day:
| Time | Demand | Pricing pressure |
|---|---|---|
| 9am–12pm | Moderate | Some flexibility |
| 1pm–4pm | Near zero | 30–50% discount available |
| 5pm–9pm | Peak | Full price, often booked out |
Between 1pm and 4pm, therapists are sitting on the step outside. A treatment that costs 250,000 IDR at 6pm is routinely 130,000–180,000 in that window at the same venue.
Some places have a formal afternoon rate. Most simply say yes when you ask. The sentence is: "Do you have an afternoon price?" or "Is there a special rate now?"
This also stacks with the wider pattern — quiet weekdays (Monday to Wednesday) and low season both soften prices further.
What the treatments actually are
Menus in Bali use the same names loosely, so this is what you are actually buying:
- Balinese massage — firm full-body work combining long strokes, acupressure and gentle stretching, with oil. More pressure than Swedish, less than Thai. The default.
- Deep tissue — what you want after a week of paddling. Ask for it explicitly; the standard Balinese pressure is not the same thing.
- Aromatherapy — lighter, oil-led, relaxation rather than repair.
- Body scrub (lulur) — traditional turmeric and rice scrub, usually sold with a massage as a package.
- Reflexology — feet and lower legs, often done in an open room, cheapest entry point.
- Cream bath — a scalp and hair treatment. Genuinely good, frequently misunderstood by visitors as a haircut.
On pressure: say what you want at the start, not halfway through. "Lebih pelan" is softer, "lebih kuat" is firmer. Both understood everywhere.
Recovery, beyond massage
Canggu in particular has built a real recovery scene over the last few years:
| Item | Price |
|---|---|
| Ice bath / cold plunge session | 150,000–350,000 IDR |
| Sauna session | 150,000–300,000 IDR |
| Contrast therapy package | 250,000–450,000 IDR |
| Recovery studio membership | Ask — pays off from ~2×/week |
| Physio consultation | 300,000–700,000 IDR |
| Chiropractic session | 400,000–800,000 IDR |

What you are paying extra for at the top end
Worth saying plainly: a 120,000 IDR massage at a busy local spa is frequently better than a 600,000 one at a resort. The local therapist does eight treatments a day and has done for years.
What the extra 480,000 buys is the room, the towels, the silence, the tea afterwards and the shower. That is a legitimate purchase — sometimes the environment is the point — but it is not better hands.
Good for / skip if
Go local and go at 2pm if: you want the treatment itself, you are here long-term, or you want it weekly. This is the best-value service in Bali by a distance.
Pay resort prices if: it is a specific occasion, you want the whole environment, or you are combining it with a pool day pass — several resorts bundle spa with pool access at a rate that beats buying both.
Book ahead if: you want a 6–8pm slot in high season. Those are the only ones that actually run out.
The honest negatives
- Quality varies enormously at the cheap end. A 100,000 IDR massage can be excellent or can be twenty minutes of oil. Busy is the signal — an empty spa at 5pm is empty for a reason.
- Upselling is common at the mid tier: the 60-minute booking becomes a package pitch. A polite no is fine.
- Hygiene at the very cheapest end is worth a glance — fresh linens, clean room.
- Open-room reflexology means no privacy, which some people mind.
- Resort spas add service charge and tax on top, commonly around 15–21%, which the quoted price often excludes.
- "Traditional healer" experiences vary from genuine to entirely staged for visitors. Ask a resident, not a tour desk.
Where the money leaks
This category has the widest unadvertised discount of anything in Bali. The 1–4pm window at 30–50% off is available almost everywhere, offered almost nowhere. Multi-treatment packages cut another 20–35%. Quiet weekdays soften prices further. Resort spa-plus-pool bundles beat buying either separately. None of it is published, because publishing it would cannibalise the 6pm bookings.
That is exactly the gap Last Call Bali exists to close: what spas across Canggu, Pererenan, Ubud, Seminyak, Uluwatu and Sanur are discounting right now — afternoon slots, packages, day passes — with a direct WhatsApp line to the venue.
No commission, no booking fee, no card details, and the venue keeps 100% of what you spend, which is precisely why they are willing to tell us today's real price.

How this page is verified
Prices come from contacting and visiting spas directly across all five nomad areas, cross-checked against what current residents report paying, and re-checked monthly. Ranges rather than single figures, because this category is negotiated, seasonal and time-of-day dependent to an unusual degree. The afternoon discount is stated as a pattern we have repeatedly confirmed by asking, not as a published rate — because it almost never is one.
