Short answer: Ubud's happy hour runs roughly 3pm to 6pm — earlier than the coast, because there is no sunset over water to build an evening around. Base prices sit 10–25% below Canggu. But the best discount in Ubud is not drinks at all: it is the empty 1–4pm spa slot at 30–50% off and the yoga multi-class pass that cuts about a third off the drop-in.
Last checked: 12 August 2026. Prices in Indonesian rupiah. Windows shift by season and shrink in July, August and around Christmas.
The window, and why it is different
Canggu, Seminyak and Uluwatu all build their happy hour around sunset at roughly 6:00–6:30pm. Ubud is inland with jungle and rice terraces rather than an ocean horizon, so the entire day moves forward:
| Ubud | Coast | |
|---|---|---|
| Typical window | 3–6pm, some 4–7pm | 4–7pm |
| Late window | Essentially none | 9–11pm in Seminyak |
| Town winds down | ~10pm | 1am+ |
| Peak dinner | 6:30–8pm | 7:30–9pm |
Where the clusters are
Jalan Goutama — the narrow lane of small restaurants and bars off Jalan Raya. No traffic, walkable, priced between the warungs and the fine-dining rooms. This is the answer to "where do I walk for a drink".
Monkey Forest Road — more venues, wider range, busier.
Central Ubud / Jalan Raya — the highest volume and the highest tourist pricing. Fine, but you are paying for the location.
Penestanan and Nyuh Kuning — where the long-stay crowd actually drinks. Fewer venues, quieter, and the prices reflect a local rather than passing audience.
Typical prices
| Drink | Happy hour | Standard |
|---|---|---|
| Large local beer | 25,000–40,000 IDR | 40,000–65,000 |
| House cocktail, 2-for-1 | 80,000–130,000 for the pair | 80,000–140,000 each |
| Arak-based cocktail | Often the cheapest option | 60,000–110,000 |
| Wine by the glass | Rarely included | 90,000–180,000 |
Arak — the local distilled spirit — is what makes Ubud cocktails cheaper than the coast's. Imported spirits carry heavy duty; arak does not.
The fine print, same as everywhere
- Both drinks ordered and served together. The most common condition.
- Selected list only — house spirits, local beer, two or three cocktails.
- Last order, not last sip — usually 15 minutes before the window closes.
- Service charge and tax on top, commonly around 15–21% combined.
- Weekday versus weekend — windows shrink when the room fills anyway.
The better deal: Ubud's non-alcohol discounting
This is where Ubud genuinely beats the coast, and almost none of it is published.
| Item | Evening / drop-in | Discounted window or pass |
|---|---|---|
| Massage, 60 min | 200,000–300,000 IDR | 130,000–200,000 in the 1–4pm window |
| Yoga class | 130,000–180,000 drop-in | ~100,000–130,000 per class on a pass |
| Jungle / rice-field pool day pass | — | 150,000–400,000, often with lunch |
| Spa package (multi-treatment) | Full price | 20–35% off on quiet weekdays |
Every therapist in Ubud is idle between 1pm and 4pm. A treatment that costs 250,000 IDR at 6pm is routinely 130,000–180,000 in that window at the same place. Some venues have a formal afternoon rate; most simply say yes when asked.

Good for / skip if
Chase the drinks window if: you are two or more people, you drink cocktails, and you are out several evenings a week.
Chase the afternoon spa window instead if: you are here to work and recover. On a weekly massage habit it saves more than any drinks deal in town.
Skip both if: you want nightlife. Ubud is not that, and pretending otherwise leads to a disappointed evening on Monkey Forest Road.
The honest negatives
- It closes early. Most of Ubud is done by 10pm.
- No sunset over water, which removes the ritual that makes the coastal 4–7pm window feel like an event.
- Fewer venues than Canggu, so on a quiet Tuesday your options are genuinely limited.
- Central traffic is bad and narrow, and some streets restrict Gojek and Grab pickups — you may walk a block.
- Published listings are stale. Every "best bars in Ubud" result is a prior-year list with the date changed.
How to find today's
1. Ask. "Do you have a happy hour?" and "is there an afternoon rate?" — both work, and the answer is yes more often than the signage suggests.
2. Walk Jalan Goutama at 3:30pm. Chalkboards. Ten venues in ten minutes, no traffic.
3. Instagram Stories, not feeds. Deals posted there expire in 24 hours, which is exactly why they never appear in search results.
4. A live feed. That gap is why Last Call Bali exists: what Ubud venues are discounting right now — happy hour windows, spa slots, day passes, 2-for-1 offers — with a direct WhatsApp line to the venue.
No commission, no booking fee, no card details. The venue keeps 100% of what you spend, which is why they tell us today's real offer.

How this page is verified
Windows and price bands come from visiting venues and asking directly across Jalan Goutama, Monkey Forest Road, Penestanan and Nyuh Kuning, re-checked every one to two weeks — this is the fastest-moving category in Bali. We deliberately do not publish a fixed list of named bars with fixed times, because that information is wrong within a month and a stale list that looks current is worse than none. The pattern, the price bands and the fine print hold; for today's actual offers, the live feed is the answer.
