Short answer: Nusa Lembongan is a 30–45 minute fast boat from Sanur at 150,000–300,000 IDR one way. It is small enough to circle by scooter in an afternoon, calm enough to actually swim, and connected to tiny Nusa Ceningan by a yellow suspension bridge. Two nights is the right amount of time.
If Nusa Penida is the impressive island, Lembongan is the easy one — and for a long weekend from the Canggu grind, easy is usually what you want.

Practical notes:
- Book online in high season, walk-up is fine and sometimes cheaper in low season.
- Ticket prices frequently include Sanur-area hotel pickup — check before paying separately for a transfer.
- Morning departure, always. More island time and buffer if seas delay a crossing.
- Rough seas cancel boats, particularly November–March. Build a buffer day if you have a flight.

The honest recommendation: if you have two nights and want to relax, Lembongan. If you have three and want the landscape that does not exist on mainland Bali, Penida. If you have four, do both — they are twenty minutes apart.
What to actually do
Mushroom Bay — the calmest, clearest swimming on the island. Sheltered, gentle, sandy. This is where you go if the point is to be in the water.
Jungutbatu — the main village and boat arrival point, with the accommodation, restaurants and surf breaks in front of it. Good sunset over Bali with Mount Agung on the horizon.
Dream Beach and Devil's Tear — dramatic rather than swimmable. Devil's Tear is a blowhole where swell explodes up a cliff cleft; genuinely spectacular at high swell, and the water below has strong current. Admire, do not swim.
Nusa Ceningan — cross the yellow suspension bridge (scooters and pedestrians; it is narrow, take it slowly and one at a time in busy periods). Ceningan is tiny, quieter, and has the blue lagoon viewpoint and a couple of good cliff bars.
Mangrove forest, north side — paddle or take a small boat through the channels. Calm, shaded, worth an hour.
Snorkelling — trips run to Manta Point (shared with Penida), Crystal Bay and the Mangrove and Blue Corner sites. Manta rays are seasonal but reliable at the right time of year.
Surf — the reef breaks off Jungutbatu: Shipwrecks, Lacerations, Playgrounds. These are intermediate-to-advanced reef waves, not beginner spots, and most are paddled or boated out to. Boards rent on the beach. See learning to surf in Bali for whether that is you.

Two nights, sensibly
Day 1. Morning boat from Sanur. Rent a scooter at the port. Swim at Mushroom Bay, lunch, ride the island in the afternoon, sunset at Jungutbatu with Agung on the horizon.
Day 2. Morning snorkel trip (best water 7–10am), lunch, cross to Ceningan in the afternoon for the blue lagoon and a cliff bar.
Day 3. Early swim or a surf, late-morning boat back. Or hop to Penida and extend.
Good for / skip if
Go if: you want a genuinely easy island break, you want to swim in clear water, you surf at reef-break level, or you want two nights away from the Canggu loop without a three-hour drive.
Skip it if: you need reliable internet — this is not a place to schedule client calls. Also skip if seas are rough and you are prone to seasickness, or if you want dramatic cliffs, in which case Penida is the answer.
The honest negatives
- Boat crossings can be rough, and cancellations happen in wet season.
- Patchy internet and occasional power cuts. Fine for a weekend, poor for a working week.
- Limited medical facilities. Anything serious means going back to Bali.
- Water scarcity is a real local issue on these islands; be conscious about consumption.
- Rubbish washes onto some beaches seasonally with west-driven currents, particularly in wet season.
- The suspension bridge to Ceningan is narrow and gets busy; ride it slowly.
- Devil's Tear and Dream Beach currents are genuinely dangerous. People have got into trouble there. Look, do not swim.
- It has developed fast. Lembongan in 2026 is considerably busier than its reputation as a sleepy island suggests.
Where the money leaks
Book the boat directly with an operator rather than through a hotel desk — the markup is frequently 30–50%. Agree port transfer prices before getting in. Snorkel trips are cheaper arranged at the beach or port than through a booking site, and negotiable. And accommodation for two or three nights, negotiated in person and in low season, sits well below the listed rate.
