Short answer: the Bukit's cliff bars have the best sunset view in Southeast Asia and charge 150,000–280,000 IDR a cocktail for it, often with a minimum spend instead of a happy hour. The workaround locals use: the warungs built into the cliff at Bingin, where a large beer and grilled fish runs about 100,000 IDR total with an arguably better view.

Why the Bukit discounts less
Every other area in Bali discounts its dead hours because it has to. The Bukit's famous cliff venues do not have dead hours at sunset — the room fills regardless, particularly on Sundays and in dry season. So:

Where the windows do exist: the smaller bars around Uluwatu village, the Padang Padang road, and inland Pecatu and Ungasan — places serving people who live here rather than people who came for one photograph.
The three tiers of Bukit sunset

The Bingin warungs are the honest answer. They are built into the cliff face above the break, you walk down about 150 steps to get there, and the sun does exactly the same thing it does at the place charging four times more.
Single Fin is the famous exception — a bar rather than a club, with the best-known Sunday session on the island. If you go on a Sunday, arrive by 4pm or you will not park.
Minimum spend vs happy hour
They are not the same thing and the Bukit uses both.
- Minimum spend: a commitment to spend an amount, redeemable against food and drink. 500,000–2,500,000 IDR per day bed at the cliff clubs. It is not a discount, and it punishes solo travellers hardest.
- Happy hour: an actual discount, usually 2-for-1 on a limited list, in a fixed window.
If what you want is a pool and a view rather than a scene, a resort day pass at 200,000–500,000 IDR — often with a food credit — beats a cliff club minimum spend by a wide margin, and the Bukit has more of these than anywhere in Bali because the resort stock is large. See day passes explained.
The fine print
- Both drinks ordered and served together on any 2-for-1.
- Selected list only. Signature cocktails excluded.
- Last order typically 15 minutes before the window closes.
- Service charge and tax on top, commonly around 15–21%.
- Minimum spend is per bed, not per group at most venues — check before you sit.
Timing, which matters more here
- Sunset is 6:00–6:30pm. No long twilight. Arrive 5pm.
- The temple road backs up badly from 4pm, especially if there is a Kecak performance at 6.
- Weekends and Sundays at the famous venues mean no parking after about 4pm.
- Low tide vs high tide changes what you are looking at — several beaches below are exposed reef at low tide.
- Dry season (April–October) is when the Bukit is at its best and busiest.
Good for / skip if
Pay the cliff premium once. It is genuinely one of the great views on earth and worth doing deliberately, on a weekday, with a booking.
Do the Bingin warungs the rest of the time. Same ocean, same sun, a third of the bill, and better fish.
Skip sunset drinks entirely if you are surfing the evening session. That is the better use of the same hour and the whole reason most people are on the Bukit.
The honest negatives
- Everything is a ride. 10–25 minutes between venues on steep narrow roads, and mapping apps underestimate them.
- Gojek and Grab are sparse in the far south, and some car parks restrict pickups — you may be walking up a hill in the dark.
- Least discounting in Bali. The view sells itself, so venues have no pressure to run windows.
- Stairs. Bingin is ~150 steep steps down and back up, in the dark on the way home.
- Riding back after drinks is the genuine risk on these roads. Plan a driver or stay somewhere you can walk from.
How to find tonight's
1. Ask at the smaller bars — the village and Pecatu venues run windows they never advertise.
2. Check the resort day passes, not just the bars. Several include a drink credit and a pool, which is a better product than a cliff club minimum spend.
